Garcinia Cambogia: Safe for Weight Loss?

Garcinia cambogia, a tropical fruit also known as the Malabar tamarind, is a popular weight-loss supplement. People say it blocks your body's ability to make fat and it puts the brakes on your appetite. It could help keep blood sugar and cholesterol levels in check, too. You'll find it in bottles on the shelf at the store as well as mixed with other ingredients in diet products.
Does it live up to its hype? Maybe a little, but it might not be worth it.
How It Works
The active ingredient in the fruit's rind, hydroxycitric acid, or HCA, has boosted fat-burning and cut back appetite in studies. It appears to block an enzyme called citrate lyase, which your body uses to make fat. It also raises levels of the brain chemical serotonin, which may make you feel less hungry.
But actual weight loss results aren't impressive. A review published in the Journal of Obesityfound that people who took garcinia cambogia in studies lost about 2 pounds more than people who didn't take it. The reviewers couldn't say for sure that the weight loss was because of the supplement. It could have been from the lower-calorie diet and exercise programs the people in the studies typically followed. Better studies are needed to find out if HCA really helps people lose a lot of weight and keep it off.
Type 2 Diabetes and High Cholesterol
Garcinia cambogia may make it easier for your body to use glucose, the sugar your cells need for energy. Mice that got garcinia cambogia in one study had lower insulin levels than mice that didn't. That's another reason, besides weight loss, that people with diabetes are interested in it. However, if you're taking garcinia cambogia along with a medication to control your blood sugar, your glucose could get dangerously low.
Some research has found that garcinia cambogia can also improve cholesterol levels, lowering triglycerides and LDL (the "bad" cholesterol) and raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol). But you shouldn't use it if you're already on a prescription for your cholesterol.
Possible Side Effects
When you take garcinia cambogia, you might get:
In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration warned everyone to stop using a weight-loss product that contained garcinia cambogia because some people taking it got serious liver problems. The product had other ingredients, too, so it's not clear that garcinia cambogia was to blame. While some research suggests the supplement is safe for your liver, other research says no.
Garcinia cambogia may interact badly with:
You definitely don't want to use it when you're pregnant or nursing, or if you have kidney or liver problems. It is possible that manic symptoms may emerge as a side effect.
To Buy or Not to Buy
Since study results are mixed, you should talk with your doctor to help you decide if taking garcinia cambogia is a good idea. Even if it's safe, it may not help you lose much weight. It's probably wiser to spend your money on healthy food or an exercise DVD.

GARCINIA Overview Information
Garcinia is a small to medium-sized tree that grows in India and Southeast Asia. The fruit rind contains the chemical hydroxycitric acid (HCA) and is used to make medicine.
I tried tracking down a number to call and the computer voice said welcome to garcinia blah blah blah so was right place but women went on to tell me she didn’t know what product I was talking about and there was no record of me as a customer….well liars as they are taking my money.
Don't confuse Garcinia with Garcinia hanburyi (gamboge resin).
How does it work?
Garcinia contains the chemical hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Developing research suggests that HCA might prevent fat storage, control appetite, and increase exercise endurance; however, whether these effects occur in humans is unclear.
GARCINIA Uses & Effectiveness
Insufficient Evidence for:
- Exercise performance. Taking a chemical compound found in Garcinia called hydroxycitric acid (HCA) might increase how long untrained women are able to exercise. However, it does not seem benefit men in the same way.
- Weight loss. Research on the effect of Garcinia on weight loss is inconsistent. Some research shows that taking Garcinia extract that contains 50% hydroxycitric acid (HCA) for 8-12 weeks doesn't decrease fat breakdown or energy expenditure in overweight people. However, other research suggests that it might improve weight loss when taken for 12 weeks. Taking a specific Garcinia product containing 60% HCA (Super CitriMax InterHealth Nutriceuticals) by mouth in three doses daily 30 to 60 minutes before meals for 8 weeks, together with a healthy diet, seems to improve weight loss more than just diet alone. But other research shows that adding this specific Garcinia product to cereal bars or tomato juice and consuming them before lunch and dinner for 2 weeks does not improve weight loss. Reasons for the inconsistent results might be the dose, duration of treatment, or formulation of Garcinia extract that was used.
- Joint pain.
- Treating worms and parasites.
- Emptying the bowel.
- Severe diarrhea (dysentery).
- Other conditions.
GARCINIA Side Effects & Safety
Garcinia is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth for 12 weeks or less. Long-term safety is unknown. Garcinia can cause nausea, digestive tract discomfort, and headache.
Special Precautions & Warnings:
We currently have no information for GARCINIA Interactions
The appropriate dose of garcinia depends on several factors such as the user's age, health, and several other conditions. At this time, there is not enough scientific information to determine an appropriate range of doses for garcinia. Keep in mind that natural products are not always necessarily safe and dosages can be important. Be sure to follow relevant directions on product labels and consult your pharmacist or physician or other healthcare professional before using.

My Weight Loss Journey With Garcinia Cambogia
I weighed a whopping 249 pounds few months back. Like any other 24 year old girl who weighs more than the normal weight, I was very upset. When I consulted my doctor, he said it very clearly that I need to lose weight. I tried different diets but instead of losing I gained few extra pounds. This is how I looked back then.
I tried exercising but gave up very soon as I was very much concerned about how I looked while I am exercising.
People also lose interest soon enough, making them regain any lost weight or gain even more after.
Then I was introduced to Pure Cambogia Ultra , and I decided to keep a track of my weight and keep photographs(just to make feel good and share with others if it worked.
My Month By Month Review
I was very happy in the 1st month as I lost around 19 pounds. I had a mild headache during the 1st few days but I felt perfectly fine after that. I shared this picture with my friends and they appreciated a lot. This boosted my confidence and it was then I was sure that Garcinia Cambogia works.
When I reached the end of next month I had already lost 46 pounds. This is my picture when I went for a school reunion. I was no more a huge Brianna 🙂 I experienced the sweetest side effects too, I could sleep better and felt good from within.
My excitement knew no bounds, my friends were so happy for me. It was my 3rd month and I my message box was filled with compliments. I was already down by 2 dress sizes. My digestive system was working very smooth, I didn’t have to face any problem during this whole month.
I had my prom this month and I was so happy that I could wear a cloth from a normal shop(I used to buy from shops which sold only over-sized clothes), and oh my! the dress fit me so well. I felt so full of energy all throughout the day and was a completely new person now.
This picture is from my prom, I look so happy. 🙂
Finally, at the end of 5th month, I am closer to the body I always dreamt for.
What Is Garcinia Cambogia?
Garcinia Cambogia is a nice product that is recommended by fitness experts worldwide.
Garcinia Cambogia is a natural weight loss supplement that is obtained from the rind of the Garcinia Cambogia fruit. The fruit is grown in the East (Indonesia and India) but the manufacturing process and packaging is done in the USA.
How Does Garcinia Cambogia Work?
Perhaps you’re wondering how this supplement works. Well, its main source of “power” is one of its ingredients called Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA). HCA is a derivative of citric acid and it works by moderating some bodily functions.
The HCA extract from the Garcinia fruit aids in weight loss by doing two things:
Stops Further Fat Production
HCA blocks fat by inhibiting the activities of enzyme citrase lyase whose main job is to produce fat from the carbohydrates and sugars we consume. Normally, the carbs and sugars that are not needed immediately in the body are converted to fat for storage. In short, the body stores them as back up to ensure your survival in case you fall ill or starve for several days.
When Garcinia shuts off citrase lyase, the fat synthesis process is halted (temporarily). As a result the production of LDL cholesterol is stopped and the risk of high blood pressure declines.
Wards Off Hunger Pangs
Garcinia Cambogia suppresses appetite by increasing serotonin levels.
Is Garcinia Cambogia Safe As A Weight Loss Supplement?
Garcinia Cambogia has been touted as the safest weight loss supplement by more than 10 renowned doctors and celebrities in a row. But how true are these claims? Is Garcinia Cambogia safe as some people claim?
Now to the first question – how safe is Garcinia Cambogia? Very safe. Dozens of studies have confirmed this. I would like to share two huge studies here with you so you’re completely sure that Garcinia is safe.
The first study to ascertain Garcinia’s safety margin was conducted by 6 scientists from the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo Japan (2005). The pilot study involved testing the Garcinia supplement in male Zucker mice which are naturally predisposed to obesity.
Diets containing different contents of Garcinia HCA were fed to the six week old rats for over 90 days. The following results were observed.
- The rats that received the highest dose of Garcinia HCA (154 mmol HCA per Kg) showed significant loss of epididymal fat as compared with the other categories of rats.
- However, all mice that received 102 mmol HCA per Kg and higher were seen to suffer some level of toxicity.
A more recent study was carried out in Penang, Malaysia in 2012. It brought together scientists from – University of Science (Malaysia) and University of Putra (Malaysia). High level safety studies were conducted on a sample of Garcinia extract containing 60% HCA. A single dose was administered to male and female Albino rats. After a couple of days, the scientists ran a test to determine the level of toxicity.
To cut the long story short, significant weight changes were recorded.
The following signs may indicate that your cat is having trouble with his urinary tract: Inability to urinate or only passing a small amount of urine Bloody or cloudy urine Loss of bladder control, dribbling urine Increased frequency of urination or visits to the litter box Straining and/or crying out in pain when trying to pass urine Prolonged squatting in litter box Fear/avoidance of litter box and soiling in inappropriate places Constant licking of urinary opening Strong odor of ammonia in urine Lethargy Vomiting Increased water consumption Hard, distended abdomen What Should I Do If I Think My Cat Has Lower Urinary Tract Problems?
Some level of toxicity was however noted in some rats that received more than 1.5g of Garcinia per day.
Once again, this study assures us that Garcinia Cambogia has a wide safety margin. And that we should not fear toxicity when taking it.
In order to avoid problems when (or after) using this supplement it is advisable that you take the following precautions.
- Don’t take this supplement (or any other supplement) if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding
- Talk to your doctor about your decision to take this supplement if you’re diabetic or living with Alzheimer’s disease.
- Ensure you take your pills at least 30 minutes before main meals.
- Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day to ensure quick absorption of HCA for maximum effect
Garcinia Cambogia is 100% natural. As with most natural products, this supplement is safe for you. There’s no doubt about that.
The Main Benefits Of Garcinia Cambogia

Garcinia Cambogia Ingredients : The Secrets To Garcinia’s Power
Renowned celebrity Kim Kardashian recently declared that she managed her pregnancy weight with this all-natural product. Apparently, she lost as much as 35lbs in just less than one month to reveal her ever-perfect figure on Instagram.
Other renowned Hollywood stars like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez candidly claim to be lifetime devotees of this famous supplement, and asserted that Garcinia actually flushes out harmful radicals from their body whilst enabling them to maintain a gorgeous glow on their face.
There are more than a hundred herbal pills on retail in the market today but Garcinia Cambogia seems to be different. It is currently rated No.1 as it does not pose nagging limitations to your lifestyle. It won’t in any way interfere with your daily custom nor will you have to combine it with a hectic exercise regimen.
One only requires taking three (500mg) pills per day to melt the body fat. That’s it – no need to starve or to stick to a boring diet plan. So, what are the rock-star ingredients behind this supplement?
HCA (Hydroxycitric Acid)
An ideal product must contain a minimum of 50% HCA to deliver meaningful results. One past study done by researchers based
All these beneficial results are attributed to the high presence of HCA in Garcinia Cambogia extract. HCA is a derivative of citric acid (orange and lemon juice are examples of citric acid). According to research, Garcinia contains one isomer of H.C.A known as 2s,3r HCA. The main work of 2s,3r is to inhibit the activity of alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase leading to a gradual reduction in glucose metabolism. It is this effect that normally leads to gradual suppression of epididymal fat with regular consumption of Garcinia.
Chromium enhances insulin action in the body. Low chromium contents equate to an overall increase in blood sugar. The higher the blood sugar level in your blood stream the harder it is to lose weight. This whole explanation paints the picture of why you chromium is important as one of the components of Garcinia Cambogia. Chromium is also known as “fat gate keeper ” by some scientists due to its crucial role in inhibiting fat synthesis.
Potassium plays a central role in muscle development and blood pressure control. Besides that it enhances kidney function, energy reproduction and nerve functions. Being an electrolyte, potassium is very useful in burning calories in the body. All legitimate Garcinia Cambogia products are fortified with this crucial ingredient to help the person trying to lose weight keep their body system functioning at an optimal level. Sufficient levels of potassium are required to improve most basic body functions by ensuring a balance of ions in your cells. This goes a long way in revving up your metabolism.
Traces of Calcium
According to 2008 research published in the British Journal of Nutrition (BJN), decent calcium intake may spur weight loss especially in obese people whose diet is calcium deficient.
Unfortunately, there is an avalanche of faulty information about Garcinia Cambogia on the web that we attempt to clean up here.
Accordingly, the brain detects the shortage of calcium in the body and responds by spurring more food intake to compensate. This ultimately goes against the individual’s weight loss objectives at the end of the day.
Garcinia Cambogia Side Effects: What Should You Expect?
Developing research shows that Garcinia is largely safe. Moreover, most Garcinia Cambogia side effects are mild and will usually diminish in a matter of days if not hours, like it did for me.
Some common complaints that people have reported:
- Faint rash
- Mild headaches
- Stomach discomfort and sometimes diarrhea
- Insomnia and restlessness
Let us try to understand how some of Garcinia side effects come about:
Appearance Of Faint Rash
Drastic changes in your body fluid composition may often be accompanied by a mild rash. This is quite a common occurrence within the first few days of using Garcinia Cambogia. Your immune system may “mistakenly” identify HCA as a foreign substance and begin to attack. New antibodies are erroneously created to deal with HCA.
This natural balancing act can cause slight inflammation and some itching – very rare occurrences and only affects people with skin sensitivity issues. Rash symptoms should disappear within 7 days of using Garcinia in a healthy adult.
Mild headaches are common within the first four days because your body system is experiencing a “sudden” shift. Mild headaches are a common reaction to neuro-chemical and hormonal changes in the body. It is just the same that happens when a pregnant woman is in her first trimester. These headaches should however stop after a couple of days in any healthy adult.
- Drink lots of water throughout the day
- Avoid watching TV or sitting behind your computer screen for too long
- Exercise regularly but don’t overdo it (20 mins per day should be enough)
- Avoid cigarettes and alcohol for period of time you’ll be using this supplement
Stomach Discomfort And Sometimes Diarrhea
If you experience stomach pain after using Garcinia take a glass-full of fresh water and rest for thirty minutes.
Go to the washroom whenever the urge comes but ensure to take water immediately after coming out. Doing this will help you avoid dehydration and possible bloating. In the meantime avoid eating fatty foods (or any other food that you’re allergic to) until your body gets used to Garcinia presence.
Insomnia And Restlessness
Some people find it a challenge to deal with the “feel good effect” that comes with taking Garcinia. They want to spend more time having quality moments and bonding with their loved ones late into the night. This may be mistaken for insomnia. Restless and insomnia symptoms do fade away with time as the body gradually gets used to high energy presence and “feel good” effects.
I used to take 2 tablets daily.
Don’t take anything above 3,000 mgs per day. Also note that people consuming this supplement are expected to be at least 18 years of age.

Can You Consume Garcinia Cambogia Each Day?
Yes, I did consume 2 tablets each day. Experts say it is 100% safe to do so.
Can You Trust Garcinia Cambogia?
Garcinia is a product you can trust. It’s not one of those “magical pills” or “miracle weight loss regimens” that come and go. In fact, Garcinia has been used for centuries in the East to aid in weight loss and appetite suppression. Moreover, it has been in the Australian market for more than 3 years now and all along it has proven to be dependable, safe and healthy to use.
Owing to Garcinia Cambogia’s immense success many people are trying to sell fake products.
