Does Garcinia Cambogia Extract Work for Weight Loss?

5.0K Shares

Recently, Dr. Oz called Garcinia Cambogia (HCA) the “Holy Grail of Weight Loss”- you’d better believe that it is worth taking a look at!

Dr. Chen called Garcinia Cambogia Extract a “Dual Action Fat Buster” that suppresses appetite and prevents fat from being made.

Now that we’ve gotten your attention, let’s review what this product is, how it works, and why it might just be the weight loss cure you’ve been searching for.

The HCA supplement is actually extracted from the skin of the fruit, which is better known by the name tamarind. The tamarind has been around for centuries, and what it can do for weight loss has basically revolutionized how we think of losing pounds.

The fruit is from Indonesia, but it can also be found in Asia, Africa, and India. It is regularly used in Asian cooking, so you may have even had some tamarind in your food before without realizing it!

It is said to actually make your meals more filling, acting as an appetite suppressant and making you feel full much more quickly. In some cultures, they will add the garcinia gummi-gutta to soup which they eat before a meal to aid with weight loss, because they do not eat much at their meals because the fruit actually blocks their appetites. If it has been being used for many years, why are we just learning about this incredible supplement now!?

The use of HCA can help patients lose two to three times more weight than they would lose without taking the supplement. Overall, this can help users of the product to lose ten pounds or more, over and above what they would have lost without the use of the extract. You are not even required to increase your exercise rate or change your diet to reap the results of HCA.

So if you have a problem with the amount of weight you’ve been able to lose, or the ‘plateau’ feeling that most of us get after losing those first few pounds, Garcinia Cambogia may be right for you!

How The Garcinia Cambogia Diet Works

There are five primary reasons that doctors are calling this the Holy Grail for weight loss. First, it helps a person to manage their level of Cortisol, which is the hormone that results from stress within the body.

Second, it is an appetite reducer, meaning it helps you to not only control the amount of food that you eat, but also those pesky cravings that can throw us all off track.

The third reason is that it actually acts like a fat blocker, so that fat cells are not able to be formed within the body. Combine that with a lower appetite and you’re right on target!

Fourth, it naturally decreases the amount of belly fat that you carry on your body. For anyone trying to lose weight, that is the number one area that we have trouble with, so this is a huge added benefit.

Lastly, it helps those of us who are emotional about our eating habits.

"If you have almost a pure calcium hydroxycitrate, it's just not going to work," he told me.

Are you one of the many people who eat when they are sad, lonely, or depressed? this weight loss product actually increases your Serotonin level, which helps to even out your moods. You will see a decrease in emotional eating because of it.

Most products simply don’t have as many benefits to the patient. We listed the big five benefits that in tandem, will result in weight loss. Many products out in the weight loss market only have one or two of those features. NOT FIVE! If there are more benefits in your favor, the bigger the chances are that you will lose weight.

Sixth, people who take this product also often see an increase in their lean muscle and a decrease in their level of fat. This is pretty incredible in combination with the five facts listed above.

What to Look for in Garcinia Cambogia Extract

Dr. Oz may have recommended the product on his show, but there are only certain levels of any product that would live up to his high standards. So don’t just buy the first version of the product that you are able to find on the internet and hope for the best. If you do that, you may very well end up with a product that doesn’t meet the doctor’s strict criteria, meaning it will be less effective. While Dr. Oz didn’t approve any one product specifically, you want to make sure the product that you pick falls within the appropriate standards.

There are four things you’ll want to look for in the product that you choose. First, make sure that the supplement is clearly marked as HCA, or Garcinia Cambogia and that it contains at least fifty percent hydroxycitric acid. Next, make sure that the product mentions that it has potassium and calcium in the supplement, which can really help maintain your metabolism level. You also want it to say that it doesn’t contain artificial ingredients (also called binders or fillers). Last, make sure it has a daily serving size of 1500 milligrams, otherwise you won’t be getting enough of the product to make an impact on your weight loss.

Follow the directions on the package, but also, take the product with an empty stomach approximately one hour before a meal. This supplement is not safe for women who are pregnant or who are breastfeeding. If you have any serious medical problems, you should speak to your doctor before you begin a supplement like Garcinia Cambogia.

So instead of counting calories and making sure you get enough out of each minute of exercise per day, you can use this product as an assistant to your weight loss. Your confidence level will increase, and as you start losing a few pounds, you’ll be all the more likely to continue with your weight loss as you gain energy, increase your mood, and watch the pounds melt away.

You can buy the Garcinia Cambogia extract, or HCA, in most health food stores and all over the internet.

So be prepared to make sure you get 100% pure Garcinia Cambogia or it may not work for weight loss.

When extracting the rind of the fruit, a natural chemical compound called hydroxycitric acid (HCA) was discovered.

Keep in mind that if you make no changes to your diet or exercise routine, you’ll probably see a weight loss of around four pounds per month. But if you are extra motivated to lose weight, use this as an opportunity to eat better, to start up a daily exercise routine, and enhance the natural properties of this amazing supplement to get the maximum benefit.

Famous doctors stated, “Instead of focusing on your weight, you can now focus on your dress size and waist size and the things we all care about. You’ll look better because you have more of that muscle mass because your energy is being used to build muscle instead of fat.”

Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail of Fat-Loss

Posted by Robbie Farlow on Jun 1, 2015

“If I eat avocados will they get rid of my bell fat?”

“I heard carbs are bad for you and I should eat like a caveman, is that true?”

“What foods can I eat that will make me lose weight?”

THESE FOODS ARE MADE OF MAGIC (not really)

The “magic” food question is among the top five questions I am asked as a fitness coach.

If a company believes in their product they will have an iron clad money back guarantee.

Everyone is looking for that one food that “Alakazam” and “poof” makes all the fat disappear off their back, abs, and arms overnight.

Weekly, maybe even daily, we are bombarded with ads or news stories covering some new supplement or exotic food that is the Holy Grail of fat loss.

As far as I am concerned there is only one person who ever found a Holy Grail and that is Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones might be one of the greatest film franchises of all time. So much so, that my fiancé (now wife) suggested that I and my groomsmen walk down the aisle for our wedding to the Indiana Jones theme. Mark that as another reason why I married this amazing woman.

Last Crusade is by far my favorite in the entire Indiana Trilogy. Yes, I said Trilogy, Crystal Skull was just a bad dream that somehow got brought to reality via a warm hole opened by transcendental beings.

If you have never seen Last Crusade, all I can ask is this:

HOW HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN INDIANA JONES??

No, seriously, how have you never seen this film?

Stop reading this. Right now. And go watch Last Crusade.

The last 15 minutes or so have some pretty powerful and philosophical scenes but our focus will be on the scene within the Grail Chamber. I have embedded it below for your enjoyment.

The quest for the Holy Grail of dieting has been a quest for millions of Americans as well as big Pharma for well over 100 years. Countless diet pills and supplements have been promoted to us as the Holy Grail to ripped, chiseled, six-pack abs and firm tight arms and butts.

“This food and that food will cut through your belly fat.”

“Avoid these foods which make you fat.”

“Do a handstand and rub your belly and bark like a dog 3 times a day, and you will lose 10 pounds and gain a six pack in 4 weeks.”

Yeah. SURE you did.

Sensational claims and promises from fat-burner supplements or fad diets on the cover of Cosmo or Huffington Post are just as empty and false as rest of the chalices Indiana had to choose from. We all want to buy into the flashy, the catchy, or the “hot” item on the market. Yet, it is the most simple and non-sexy things that get the job done. The grail of weight loss is about as exciting as a wooden cup.

The holy grail of fat loss is simply this: to lose body fat you must be in a caloric deficit(that means you have to eat less than what you burn/spend).

No “magic” food will do that for you.

No pill will erase your mistakes.

There is no sanctified liquid ingested by Arnold that will melt all your fat away.

It will take time and dedication to exercise and tracking what you eat to achieve your Grail of Fat-Loss.

Are all the supplements sold online recommended personally by Dr.Oz ?

The goal is the Grail. The quest is the work you put in.

I have a few suggestions for “tools” that you will need on this quest for your Grail.

  • A Food Tracking App i.e. MyFitnessPal, LoseIt, Cronometer etc
  • A Food Scale. I have this one from Target, I bought it on sale but you can get these for even cheaper on Amazon as well. Just get one that is Stainless Steel as its easier to wipe down and keep clean.
  • A “Compass”: aka an app to track your workouts like Fitocracy,MapMyFitness,Endomondo, etc
  • A Guide/Sidekick: hire a coach who can map out a program for you as well be a source of accountability for those times when your quest becomes tough.

There was a catch with the Holy Grail that Indiana and his father drank from. The Grail could not leave the temple and whomever drank from it could only have eternal life within the confines of the temple.

That Knight should have had his attorney negotiate a better contract. “You can live for ever but only if you stay in this one spot and never leave.”

That is worse than signing a contract with the Oakland Raiders!

This is sort of how flashy or fad diets work as well. You are told you can never eat these “bad” foods that you love soooo much ever again if you want to live and not die tomorrow.

While everyone else is out having fun and eating ice cream and pizza we are stuck inside a cave munching on “cauliflower pizza” and that weird imitation ice cream that tastes like the wrapper of a Tootsie Pop.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

Losing fat while gaining muscle: Scientists close in on 'holy grail' of diet and exercise

Researchers at McMaster University have uncovered significant new evidence in the quest for the elusive goal of gaining muscle and losing fat, an oft-debated problem for those trying to manage their weight, control their calories and balance their protein consumption.

Scientists have found that it is possible to achieve both, and quickly, but it isn't easy.

For the study, 40 young men underwent a month of hard exercise while cutting dietary energy they would normally require by 40 per cent of what they would normally require.

"It was a gruelling affair," says Stuart Phillips, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster and senior investigator on the study.

Most of these products don't work and can even be dangerous, especially when dealing with supplements.

"These guys were in rough shape, but that was part of the plan. We wanted to see how quickly we could get them into shape: lose some fat, but still retain their muscle and improve their strength and fitness," he says.

The researchers divided their subjects into two groups. Both groups went on a low calorie diet, one with higher levels of protein than the other. The higher-protein group experienced muscle gains -- about 2.5 pounds -- despite consuming insufficient energy, while the lower protein group did not add muscle.

The lower-protein group at least had the consolation of not losing muscle, which is a predictable outcome of cutting calories and not working out, say researchers.

"Exercise, particularly lifting weights, provides a signal for muscle to be retained even when you're in a big calorie deficit," says Phillips.

Researchers were intrigued because the high-protein group also lost more body fat.

"We expected the muscle retention" said Phillips, "but were a little surprised by the amount of additional fat loss in the higher protein consuming group."

The results showed that the high-protein group lost about 10.5 pounds and the low protein group only eight pounds. All of the participants, by virtue of the demanding six-days-a-week exercise routines, got stronger, fitter, and generally were in much better shape.

However, researchers caution this regimen is not for everyone.

"We designed this program for overweight young men, although I'm sure it would work for young women too, to get fitter, stronger, and to lose weight fast. It's a tough program and not something that's sustainable or for those looking for quick and easy fix," says Phillips. "We controlled their diets, we supervised the exercise, and we really kept these guys under our 'scientific' thumb for the four weeks the participants were in the study."

Phillips and his team hope to conduct a follow-up study on women and also explore a different approach that he says will be "a little easier and much more sustainable."

The study was published in the latest issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
