Does Garcinia Cambogia Extract Have Side Effects?
This much-talked about miracle weight loss supplement has taken the weight loss industry by storm. Garcinia cambogia extract supplements have been dubbed as the "Holy Grail" of weight loss by famous Doctor , due to its revolutionary weight loss properties. However, like all things that promise fast and efficient weight loss, there have been some questions about whether or not there are side effects to this all-natural supplement. But what is garcinia cambogia in the first place?
What is Garcinia Cambogia Extract?
Garcinia cambogia extract is an all-natural weight loss supplement that was introduced in the US market in 2007. Since then, many health and medical practitioners have been buzzing about it because of its fast and effective results to weight loss, even without changes in diet nor doing any exercise. The extract is taken from the rind of the garcinia cambogia – which is a pumpkin-like fruit found in the regions of Indonesia and South East Asia. The extract contains the acid Hydroxycitric Acid or HCA, which is the key ingredient to weight loss.
How Does Garcinia Cambogia Extract Help you Lose Weight?
Garcinia cambogia contains the natural key ingredient to weight loss, which is HCA. This revolutionary acid works to help you lose weight in 3 ways:
- Suppresses your appetite by making you feel fuller longer.
- Prevents fat from forming.
- Increases the level of serotonin in the brain to help emotional eaters.
This triple-action formula is the powerful combination that gives garcinia cambogia its effective weight loss properties.
Garcinia Cambogia Benefits
In a recent study by the Purdue University, results showed that people who took 400 mg of HCA 30-60 minutes before eating lost about 6.8-8.1 pounds in over 12 weeks. In another study, this time at Georgetown University, participants lost an average of 5.4% in bodyweight in only 8 weeks – that's about 15 pounds in only 2 months for a 300-pound person! These studies goes to show the amazing weight loss effects of consuming garcinia cambogia extract supplements.
The real great thing about garcinia cambogia is that you can easily lose unwanted fat and weight even without exercise and without changing your food choices. It's the perfect solution for those who have very busy lifestyles! Plus, HCA increases the level of serotonin in your brain, alleviating your mood and helping you sleep better. By making you feel good, you will no longer have cravings when you're stressed out, helping emotional eaters in general.
Are there any Garcinia Cambogia extract Side Effects?
Because of the growing buzz around garcinia cambogia extract, many researchers have made studies about the pros and cons of this all-natural supplement.
You do not have to starve yourself and drink your meals.
According to consumer research specialist Lisa King, no studies have shown negative side effects of taking garcinia cambogia supplements. Because the supplement is made from an all-natural fruit, it is perfectly safe and effective. However, because there are so many brands out there, some supplements may be mixed with unhealthy additives that can lead to side effects, which is why as a consumer, you must be wary about the product that you buy.
Things to Consider when Buying Garcinia Cambogia
Because of the popularity of garcinia cambogia, there are many brands that may add some additives to the supplements that can lead to certain side effects. Therefore, there are certain things that you need to consider:
- Check for at least 60% HCA – any less and your supplement will be ineffective. If the brand does not list any percentage of HCA, then don't even bother.
- Check for purity – make sure there are NO binders, NO additives, NO fillers, and NO artificial ingredients.
- Check the price tag – since garcinia cambogia is a natural fruit, it shouldn't be too expensive. Anything more than $60 for a bottle is too much – when this happens, you are assured that the product has unnecessary fillers.
Check if the product is Made in the USA – some reports of side effects come from brands made outside the US, which are filled with binders and additives. So make sure the product is made in a certified lab in the US.
Listed above are the most important things to look for when you check garcinia cambogia supplement. But other factors that you should also take into consideration are:
- LOOK OUT for exaggerated claims, unsupported facts, and too-good-to-be-true promises.
- Make sure the products are made in an FDA-registered laboratory.
Before you purchase you garcinia cambogia supplement make sure it meets the criterias listed above.

Green Coffee And Garcinia Cambogia – You’ll Never Guess Which Is Best…
Garcinia cambogia and green coffee bean are becoming two of the most popular weight loss supplements, but the question is, can you safely use them both?
This will allow the garcinia cambogia to be absorbed, allowing all the proposed benefits to start taking effect.
Garcinia Pure is a Garcinia Cambogia supplement that contains 60% HCA, with each dosage containing the recommended daily allowance of 1000 mg.
Do they actually work? I’ve spent 3 months trawling through research papers, talking to specialists, and people who have taken both pills and here is what I discovered…
We all know how easy it is to put on weight in this day and age. Before you realise it's happening, you’ve put on way more fat than is good for you, and are having to face the reality that certain health problems are staring you down.
To make matters worse it comes up again and again how the food corporations are stuffing our food full of artificial this, processed that, as well as tons of hidden salt and sugar. And it’s impossible to stick to those fasting diets, and “insane” workouts…
So it's only natural to look for a better way. But what exactly is it about these two supplements that make them so in-demand? In the past few months several popular doctors and celebrities have been spreading the word about the suprising results that they are getting with both of these extracts.
I came across several studies, and one of the most interesting done by Dr. Eleanor Hanslow:
…It’s a really exciting time for us. Out of 230 of our patients on both regimes, about 150 are reporting weight loss of around 4-5 pounds per week. Another 40 are maintaining a steady 2 pounds per week.
And this is what Carol Flindon, one of the participants in the trial, told us:
…I was skeptical at first but I really wanted to make a change and the usual diets hadn’t worked for me. So I started on the Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee hybrid regime, and after a week I could start to see the difference. I didn’t feel as hungry, and had a lot more energy than I used to. After a few more days, the pounds started dropping…and here I am today!
If you would like to get the same results as Carol and others like her, click the links below to reserve your free trial bottles.
To achieve this result, Dr. Hanslow had the participants take 1×400 mg green coffee bean extract and garcinia cambogia 1×1000 mg capsule half an hour before dinner and breakfast. Each participant was asked to track their progress each day in a journal, and that’s how the results came to be known.
The following are just some of the latest scientific findings that appear to prove the two supplements do burn fat, without extreme diets or exercise.
What The Scientific Research Reveals
Natural garcinia cambogia has been used by ancient peoples to lose weight for a long time, but it only gained public attention after it was featured by Dr. Oz, and since then it’s been all over the news. Dr. Oz was also the one who spoke highly of benefits of raw coffee, but are the claims true?
After months of research and speaking with health experts about the efficiency of these pills, it turns out you cantake them both without experiencing any major side effects, so long as you ramp up slowly.
For me though, what’s really surprising about taking garcinia cambogia with green coffee extract is that your hunger pangs disappear as well, and yet there were no reports of fatigue that often comes with more synthetic types of diet pills.
That’s one of the hardest things about dieting of course: what you do is try to cut down your meals but you just end up feeling hungry and weak.
Chemical component may degrade the digestion organ.
But that’s not going to be a problem when taking both of these extracts, because you not only lose pounds, but the urge to keep eating.
In recent years, we have all become more health conscious, but at the same time we're wary of new untested treatments and the potential side effects that these might involve.
What Does This Tell Us?
First of all it tells us the two supplements don’t contradict one another, and there are no side effects if you take them both. Second, you’ll lose more pounds this way than engaging in rigorous workouts. I’m not saying you should not exercise, but rather that moderate workouts coupled with these two supplements will produce better results. A further boost can be attained by including a garcinia cambogia and colon cleanse into your regime.
Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean Extract
Also known as Garcinia Gummi-gutta extract, the supplement has become a byword among those who want to lose weight the natural way, but the same thing can be said for green coffee. As I pointed out earlier, research shows that there’s no conflict between the two, but there are still some who want to compare both.
First of all I would like to stress that both supplements work very well, but they do so differently. Here’s a brief explanation of how these supplements burn fat as well as the evidence supporting them.
A Closer Look At Green Coffee
The active ingredient here is Chlorogenic acid, and this more than anything other is responsible for burning fat in your body. According to research, Chlorogenic acid works by slowing the amount of glucose that your liver puts in your bloodstream.
If there’s not enough glucose in your bloodstream, your body is left with no choice but to tap into the stored fat and use it as energy, and this of course leads to weight loss. Apart from losing weight, an added benefit is it takes away your hunger pangs so you can lose pounds without feeling deprived of food.
Green Coffee – The Evidence
There are a growing number of studies proving that coffee bean supplements are effective, including one study done by Dr. Joe A Vinson. In this rigidly controlled, double blind, placebo trial, the participants that availed of the lost several more pounds compared to those that used placebo.
Another study was done by Dr. Oz with 100 women participating, and half of which were given the extract of the raw coffee and the other half placebo. None of them were asked to change their diet, but after a couple of weeks those who took the natural coffee extract lost more pounds than those that took placebo, leading credence to the earlier studies.
The best part about these studies is healthy participants reported no side effects, and by just taking three 400 mg 45% Chlorogenic acid tablets a day they started losing weight.
A Closer Look At Garcinia Cambogia
Reviews of naturally extracted garcinia have been very positive, and the key to weight loss is hydroxycitric acid or HCA.

HCA is similar to the Chlorogenic acid in that it suppresses your appetite, but it burns fat differently.
Researchers are not yet entirely sure how it works, but essentially what it does is increase the serotonin in your brain, the chemical that tells your body to stop eating. I would also like to point out that serotonin is the same chemical that keeps people from emotional eating binges, so higher levels are great.
But that’s not all that HCA does, because it also keeps the enzyme citrate lyase from being released. This is the enzyme that turns food carbohydrate into fat, which is one of the reasons why you get fat.
But since HCA inhibits this enzyme, your body’s ability to store fat is slowed down, and the remaining fat cells will be used as energy.
Garcinia Cambogia – The Evidence
Like the raw coffee, there’s scientific evidence that GC is essential for weight loss. One of these studies was done at Purdue University and the results are impressive to say the least.
The subjects were given 400 mg doses of GC half an hour before meals, and after 12 weeks each participant had lost more than 8 lbs. And the best part about this is the participants didn’t even need to do more exercise or go on a crash diet.
I also found out that Georgetown University also did an 8 week study wherein the participants lost 5.4% of their body weight. In both studies, the participants were given 60% HCA, so you need to make sure that the supplement you take has that amount. As for the dose, 800 mg to 1000 mg will be necessary.
As far as side effects go, none has been reported so far, and that’s not really surprising because this is a natural product. However if you’re taking any kind of medication for a medical condition, ask your doctor first, and you should do the same with green coffee beans.
As you can see, the study done by Dr. Hanslow shows that both supplements are effective and safe, so there’s nothing wrong when taking these supplements together before meals. Neither has any significant side effects unless taken in extremely high doses and they are both convenient to use. On their own, each supplement should work well, but if you want to try both there’s nothing wrong with it either.
By trying both, you’ll be able to determine which one works best for you. Take 1 x 400 mg raw coffee bean capsule half an hour twice a day before meals for a week, and then do the same with 1 x 1000 mg of garcinia. But defer to the instructions on each bottle when in doubt.
We have managed to track down the same labs that Dr Hanslow used. They graciously agreed to supply our readers with 50 trial bottles of their supplements, but could not guarantee more than that. All you need to do is pay $4.97 for postage and packaging and the bottles will be sent to you.
Whatever you decide, we urge you to get help somewhere.
Tengo algunas amigas que también lo han probado y les parece fenomenal.

High-Dose Side Effects
Excessive consumption of Garcinia cambogia extract can cause gastrointestinal side effects, according to EMedTV and Green Herbal Remedies. People taking large amounts of this herb might experience stomach or intestinal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Headaches are another possible side effect.
Blood Sugar Effects
Hydroxycitric acid, the active ingredient in Garcinia cambogia extract, can lower blood sugar levels. People with diabetes might need to monitor their blood sugar more closely when taking this herb, as noted by eMedTV. Diabetic patients taking medications such as metformin or insulin to control blood sugar levels might need to have their health care provider adjust the dosage.
Some people will experience an allergic reaction to Garcinia cambogia. Signs of an allergic reaction, according to the Physicians' Desktop Reference and eMedTV, include itching, skin rash, hives, mouth or throat tingling, chest tightness, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the hands, face or throat. An allergic reaction to Garcinia cambogia should be considered a medical emergency.
Extremely high doses of Garcinia cambogia, when fed to obese male rats, resulted not only in suppression of fat accumulation but also in testicular shrinkage, according to a study published in the March 2005 issue of Food and Chemical Toxicology. Diets with lower amounts of Garcinia cambogia did not produce this side effect, although the amounts of HCA were still high. No negative effects were seen when rats were fed 389mg per kilogram of body weight per day, translating to more than 26,000mg per day for an individual weighing about 150 lbs. In contrast, the standard dosage of HCA is 250 to 1000mg per day for adults, as noted by Holistic Herbalist.
